A festive Christmas tree lighting in Concord, North Carolina, erupted into chaos Friday night when a shooting left four people wounded, police said.
According to the Concord Police Department, three of the victims are in critical condition, while the fourth is in stable condition. All were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The shooting happened just before 7:30 p.m. at the city’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Union Street S, near Corban Avenue.
Police, Concord Fire, and Cabarrus County EMS were already on-site for the event and reacted within moments, giving medical aid and helping evacuate the area.
The rest of the celebration was canceled immediately.
City officials urged visitors to clear the area and advised drivers to find alternate routes as the investigation continues. Concord Police confirmed the incident is still under active investigation.
