Australian actress Rachael Carpani has died at the age of 45, her family announced “with great sadness.”

On Monday, Dec. 15, Carpani’s sister, Georgia, shared a statement from their parents on Instagram confirming that the actress passed away after a long struggle with chronic illness.

“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday 7th December,” the statement said.

The family added that Carpani’s funeral will be a private event held on Friday, Dec. 19, attended only by close family and friends.

“The family requests privacy at this very difficult time and will be making no further statements,” the post concluded.

Carpani was best known for her role as Jodi Fountain on the hit Australian TV series McLeod’s Daughters, which she appeared in from 2001 to 2009. Her performance made her a familiar face to audiences in Australia and beyond.

She also built a career in the U.S., appearing in shows such as NCIS: Los Angeles, The Glades, The Rachels, and If There Be Thorns. Carpani played the lead role in Lifetime’s Against the Wall and starred in the 2009 film Triangle alongside Liam Hemsworth, according to IMDb.

Earlier this year, Georgia had shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to her sister in August.

“Whether she’s done up and going out or staying in and working, she’s the most beautiful woman I know,” she wrote. “Happiest of birthdays to my gorgeous sister @rachcarpani. You bring so much light and joy and we love you so much!”

Following the news of Carpani’s death, fans flooded social media with messages of love and sympathy. Many left comments on a photo of Georgia and Rachael posted in September 2024.

“I am so incredibly saddened to learn of your darling sister’s passing. I grew up watching & wanting to be her,” one fan wrote.

Another added, “Praying for your beautiful family.”

“I loved your sister in McLeod’s Daughters! Sorry for your loss,” a third commented.

Carpani’s death has left fans and colleagues mourning a performer remembered for her talent, warmth, and lasting impact on television.
