Avatar: Fire and Ash — the third chapter in James Cameron’s epic sci-fi saga — has blasted off at the global box office, racking up a massive $345 million worldwide in its opening weekend. That makes it the second-biggest worldwide debut of 2025, trailing only Zootopia 2.

According to early estimates, the movie earned $88 million in North America and $257 million internationally over its first three days.

Even though those numbers are strong, they’re still about $95 million shy of what Avatar: The Way of Water brought in during its own opening weekend back in 2022. That film went on to make a staggering $2.3 billion worldwide during its full run.

How It’s Doing in India

In India, Avatar: Fire and Ash has drawn solid crowds despite local competition. On its third day, the film brought in around ₹25 crore at the box office, pushing its three-day total past ₹60 crore domestically.

Mixed but Strong Performance

While the domestic start is respectable, especially during a busy holiday season, Fire and Ash did perform below its predecessor’s launch figures. Still, analysts note that Avatar films traditionally build momentum over time rather than relying solely on massive openings.

Why It Still Matters

The film’s global kickoff underscores the enduring power of the Avatar franchise, even as Fire and Ash faces stiff competition at the box office and mixed critical reviews.
