A new generation of the Kennedy family is stepping into politics. Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, announced Tuesday night that he’s officially running for Congress.
The 32-year-old Democrat is seeking to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District, a seat long held by Rep. Jerry Nadler, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
🗽 “This Is My Home”
In a campaign video shared Tuesday, Schlossberg said he’s proud to run in the district where he grew up.
“I’m running for Congress to represent my home — New York’s 12th Congressional District — where I was born and raised, where I took the bus to school every day from one side of the district to the other,” he said.
“This is the best part of the greatest city on Earth.”
The district covers the heart of Manhattan, including Central Park, the Upper East Side, and Midtown, as well as parts of Greenwich Village and Harlem.
🧬 Carrying on the Kennedy Legacy
Like his famous grandfather, Schlossberg is running as a Democrat, positioning himself as a strong voice against Donald Trump and Republican policies. He has also drawn attention for his outspoken online presence, where he often posts about current events and politics — sometimes taking aim at his own family members.
He’s been particularly critical of his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a controversial presidential candidate and anti-vaccine activist.
“He’s trading in on Camelot, celebrity, conspiracy theories, and conflict for personal gain and fame,” Schlossberg said in 2023.
🎓 Yale, Harvard, and a Political Voice at Vogue
Schlossberg studied history at Yale University and went on to earn both a law degree and an MBA from Harvard. In 2024, he joined Vogue as a political correspondent, covering the presidential election.
His campaign, he says, will focus on protecting democracy and fighting back against Trump-era policies.
💬 “New York Deserves Bold Leadership”
In his announcement, Schlossberg highlighted the district’s cultural and economic importance:
“We have the best hospitals, schools, restaurants, and museums. This is the financial and media capital of the world. Our representative should harness that energy and creativity and turn it into real political power in Washington.”
If elected, Schlossberg would become the first member of the Kennedy family in Congress in over a decade — marking a new chapter in America’s most storied political dynasty.
